About this event

The Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum in Sugarcreek, Ohio, holds its Fall Steam Festival, subtitled "Trains, Tractors & Traditions", each autumn. The museum describes it as a chance to relive some of the most fondly remembered aspects of historic Americana: steam machines, base ball and hot dogs.

Guests can watch base ball played as it was in the old days, with little more equipment than players could sling over their shoulders. Steam tractor operators showcase their machines, including a shingle mill and other belt-driven implements. A barbershop quartet from the Akron chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society performs, and the program also lists a blacksmith and a tinsmith.

All of it is framed by the museum's own steam locomotive, which gives rides on the museum grounds throughout the event. The museum, an active 18-stall roundhouse with a 115-foot turntable, also offers its regular roundhouse tours at an additional charge.

What to expect

Steam tractors and machines, blacksmith and tinsmith demonstrations, a food vendor selling hot dogs, rides behind the museum's steam locomotive on the grounds, 1.6-inch scale steam locomotive rides and vintage self-propelled handcar rides. The vintage base ball game and the barbershop quartet are on the Saturday only.
