About Spotatrain.com

Built by railfans, for railfans — all around the world.

Our Story

Spotatrain.com was born from a simple realization: passionate railfans around the world needed a better way to discover and share amazing places to enjoy trains. What started as a personal map of local trainspots — a notebook of favorite bridges, viewpoints, and stations — grew into a structured global database. Today the platform connects four pillars of rail tourism: trainspotting locations, guided railway experiences, legendary epic journeys, and landmark infrastructure projects, all woven together through an interactive map.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help railfans of all ages and backgrounds discover the best trainspotting locations and immersive railway experiences — from scenic mountain viewpoints and historic narrow-gauge lines to rail museums, preserved depots, and event rides. Whether you are planning a weekend trip near home or a once-in-a-lifetime voyage across a continent, Spotatrain gives you the practical details — coordinates, access, train frequencies, photography tips, and seasonal advice — that bigger travel sites tend to skip.

Our Community

Spotatrain is more than a website — it's a global movement. Our growing community of contributors adds to an ever-growing library of spots, photos, and videos. Whether you're sharing a hidden gem in the Alps or reviewing a museum in Japan, your input helps railfans everywhere plan their next railway adventure.

Editorial Standards

At Spotatrain we treat every page as a small editorial product. New spots, experiences, journeys, and mega-projects are first drafted, then reviewed in a private preview environment before being published to the public site. We prioritize primary sources — official operator websites, museum and heritage railway sites, government infrastructure announcements — and treat encyclopedic references like Wikipedia as secondary, with blogs and forums used only for community context or photographic precedents.

Each fact-heavy page links out to the official resources we relied on through a dedicated External Resources section, so readers can verify and dig deeper. Some content sections are drafted with the help of large language models to accelerate research and structuring, but every published page receives a human editorial pass. AI-assisted content is tracked internally so we can audit and revise it later as facts change.

Team & Publisher

Spotatrain.com is an independent project published by Geospotter Studios, a Canadian micro-publisher focused on niche travel and outdoor-recreation databases. The platform was launched in 2025 and is currently a solo founder-led product — there is no advertising team, no investor pressure, and no editorial calendar driven by SEO trends. Decisions about which destinations to cover and how to cover them come from a single editor who is, first and foremost, a railfan.

We invite collaboration from contributors and partners. If you spot an error, want to add a location we are missing, or represent an operator, museum, or tourism board that would like to update its listing, the fastest path is to reach us at contact@spotatrain.com. See our contact page for more options.

What We Don't Do

Spotatrain does not accept paid placements. The order in which destinations, journeys, or mega-projects appear on the site is never influenced by money: ranking signals come from data — geography, type, completeness, community ratings — not from sponsorship. We do display affiliate links on a small number of gear-recommendation pages; these are always disclosed prominently, and the affiliate relationship never affects our editorial choices. See our disclaimer for details.

User-generated content (photo uploads, ratings, comments) is reviewed before being indexable in search engines. Profile and list pages are marked noindex. We avoid quantitative claims about audience size or community reach that we cannot measure precisely — when in doubt, we describe the community qualitatively rather than inflate the numbers.

Our Values

Quality

We strive for excellence. Our platform highlights well-documented spots, accurate details, and quality imagery to help railfans make informed decisions — and we welcome corrections from readers at any time.

Passion

Spotatrain is powered by love for the rails. Our shared enthusiasm drives everything we do — from refining the interactive map to writing each destination guide by hand and chasing down the small details that turn a good visit into a great one.
