Advent and Nikolaus Steam Trains to Christmas Markets — Berliner Eisenbahnfreunde

The Berliner Eisenbahnfreunde run a museum railway programme with special trains from the station Berlin-Lichtenberg. Before Christmas they offer steam-hauled excursions to two Christmas markets north of Berlin.

The Adventsdampf goes to the Weihnachtsmarkt in Basdorf. According to the operator, passengers have about two hours there and the market is roughly 500 m from the station. The Nikolausdampf goes to the Weihnachtsmarkt in Bernau, with a stop of just under three hours.

The operator names the steam locomotive 03 2155, an express locomotive, for both trips. The routes lead east of Berlin over Ostkreuz and, on the Bernau trip, along the eastern Ringbahn and the Stettiner Bahn. Seats are reserved and the same seats apply on the outward and return journeys.

Bicycles cannot be taken on the Advent trips, and the operator cannot guarantee seat requests in the buffet car or the upholstered compartments.
