About this event

The Fränkische Museums-Eisenbahn e.V. Nürnberg (FME) offers "Mit dem Nikolaus durch die Oberpfalz nach Regensburg", a pre-Christmas excursion by heritage train. The operator says Saint Nicholas and his companion Krampus ride the train and hand out praise or reprimands to the children; well-behaved children receive a small gift.

In Regensburg passengers can explore the medieval old town or visit four Christmas markets. The operator names a diesel locomotive, V100 1019, hauling FME historic coaches from the 1930s and 1950s, with a dining car and a beer car on board. Boarding stations run from Fürth and Nürnberg through Lauf, Hersbruck, Sulzbach-Rosenberg and Amberg to Schwandorf.

Seat reservations are included in the fare. The operator states a minimum number of participants for the trip.

What to expect

A full day out: a morning outbound journey to Regensburg, free time in the city, and an afternoon return. Nikolaus and Krampus walk through the train; the operator also sells an optional "Sündenzettel" for Nikolaus with a bag of treats. A dining car and a beer car are on board.
