Treno storico dei Krampus — Fondazione FS

The Treno storico dei Krampus is a historic train run by Fondazione FS Italiane and FS Treni Turistici Italiani from Trieste to Tarvisio, in northern Friuli Venezia Giulia. The operator describes it as a journey to the traditional festival of San Nicolò and the parade of the Krampus, ancestral figures tied to Alpine traditions and to rites and beliefs rooted in the oldest history of the area.

The operator presents it as a night-time journey into the heart of the Julian Alps, to experience the unique atmosphere of the festival in Tarvisio, with re-enactment, show and popular culture, one of the most characteristic events of the region's winter calendar. The train is listed with electric and diesel locomotives, 1930s "Centoporte" carriages and a luggage van, and with intermediate stops at Monfalcone, Gorizia and Udine; the return leaves Tarvisio in the evening.

The regional historic-train season is promoted by the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government with Fondazione FS Italiane and FS Treni Turistici Italiani, with the support of local authorities and PromoTurismoFVG. The train has appeared on the Fondazione FS calendar before.

A day-and-evening trip by historic train from Trieste to Tarvisio for the St Nicholas festival and the Krampus parade, with re-enactment, show and local folk culture as described by the operator. The return from Tarvisio is in the evening. Bicycles can travel free in the luggage van.

Boards at Trieste Centrale (the operator's regional programme lists intermediate stops at Monfalcone, Gorizia and Udine).
