About this event

The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway, a volunteer-operated non-profit that has run train rides from Nelsonville, Ohio, since 1972, schedules Steam Train Specials, with a fall run. Passengers ride behind an authentic 1920 coal-fired steam locomotive through the historic Hocking Valley to East Logan and back, on a family-friendly trip of about two hours.

The operator names the locomotive as 0-6-0 No. 3, restored in 2015. It notes that space is limited and that advance purchase is recommended, and that the railway reserves the right to change motive power without advance warning.

The steam specials are separate from the railway's regular weekend trains and its other themed trains, which include dinner trains, a Halloween train, October fall foliage rides and Santa trains.

What to expect

A round trip of about two hours to East Logan and back behind coal-fired steam, with soft drinks and food permitted on board. Tickets are paper: come into the depot on arrival to pick up hard copies, because the confirmation is not a ticket. The trains leave promptly at their scheduled times.
