About this event

When autumn arrives in the high desert, the historic Nevada Northern Railway in Ely, Nevada, turns its century-old working rail yard into a hub of seasonal excitement for Halloween. The Haunted Ghost Train is the operator's spookier evening ride: the haunted train is sent up the hill on selected weekend dates, and ghost stories come alive as passengers meet zombies, ghosts, ghouls, aliens and maybe even Bigfoot.

The operator warns that you never know what is around the next bend and that the crew has been sworn to secrecy. Costumes are encouraged unless you are, in the railroad's words, naturally scary.

The trains run on the Nevada Northern, a living, operating historic railroad. Passengers can choose coach or open-air seating or roam between the two. The same railroad runs a separate, kid-oriented Halloween ride, the Pumpkin Patch Caper.

What to expect

A trip of about 90 minutes on a historic train after dark, with zombies, ghosts, ghouls and aliens along the line. Passengers can sit in the coach or in open-air seating or move between the two. There is an on-board restroom, the train is wheelchair accessible, and snacks and beverages are for sale. At over a mile high in elevation, the operator advises bringing a jacket for evening trips.

Practical info

The train departs from the Nevada Northern Railway, 1100 Avenue A, Ely, Nevada. Tickets are sold through the railroad's online ticketing page, which also offers group pricing for 12 or more tickets. The operator lists adult, senior, child and infant ticket types. Costumes are encouraged.
