About this event

The Lake Placid Limited is the Sugar Express's flagship day trip. Departing mid-morning from Clewiston, the train is led by a U.S. Sugar diesel to Lake Placid, and historic steam locomotive No. 148 operates the train on the southbound leg. The operator describes the route as a full-day journey through the heart of South Central Florida's sugarcane country, with views of cane fields, orange groves, freshwater marshes and trestles, and chances to spot Florida wildlife.

In Lake Placid, passengers have a three-hour layover to have lunch, explore local shops and cafés and visit the restored depot in the town the operator calls the Caladium Capital of the World and the Town of Murals. The train then returns to Clewiston.

Seating ranges from an open-air car to deluxe coaches, first-class tavern and observation seats with appetizers and refreshments, a table package for four, and a private Pullman car for groups.
