We have not tested it ourselves: strengths and weaknesses below come from the tests cited.

Why Railfans Carry It

The camera alone is 53 g and, in TechRadar's words, similar in size to an Apple Watch. It attaches by magnet, so a pendant or clip is enough to start recording hands-free. Digital Camera World's tester found the hat clip gave a view close to eye line.

In the Field

The Standard Bundle, as Insta360's store lists it, holds the camera, a quick release safety cord, a magnetic easy clip, a magnet pendant and a lens guard. There is no built-in memory, so a microSD card has to be bought separately; TechRadar notes cards up to 2 TB work. TechRadar's tester wore it on a hat clip and on a pendant during hikes, and her first hat-mounted clips looked wonky until she switched on Jitter Blur Reduction and Tilt Fix, which corrects uneven mounting by up to 10 degrees. She measured about 45 minutes of 1080p video from the camera alone and around 150 minutes with the Action Pod, and a 10-minute charge took the battery from about 0 to 75 percent. The camera alone is waterproof to 10 m, and four audio modes include wind reduction. Insta360 warns: "If you have a pacemaker, please do not wear GO Ultra on your chest or use the Magnet Pendant."

Strengths and Weaknesses

Expert pick · TechRadar: TechRadar's tester spent three weeks with a production model on a hat, handlebars and a dog, and calls it a fun, lightweight action camera whose results belie its size, while flagging limited battery life and a splashproof-only Action Pod. Read the review

Strengths

  • 4K video at 60 frames per second
  • 53 g camera body with magnetic mounting
  • Camera alone waterproof to 10 m
  • Fast recharge, about 10 minutes from 0 to roughly 75 percent in TechRadar's test
  • Four audio modes, including wind reduction

Weaknesses

  • Heavier than the Insta360 GO 3S, about 14 g more
  • Action Pod is only splashproof
  • Battery life is limiting for long recording, about 45 minutes from the camera alone in TechRadar's test
  • No built-in storage; microSD card sold separately
  • Camera gets very hot after filming and its connection can drop beyond about five meters, per TechRadar
  • Magnet pendant tilts the camera down but not up, per Digital Camera World

Who It’s For

Adults who want a very light, body-worn camera for hands-free travel clips, and who accept shorter battery life and a separate memory card. It is a poor fit for anyone who needs the smallest possible camera, a fully waterproof pod, or all-day recording on one charge.

Alternatives

The Insta360 Ace Pro 2, already in our catalog, is the step up TechRadar names for advanced videography: co-engineered with Leica, up to 8K, with a bigger sensor and a vlogger-friendly screen, though bulkier. The GoPro HERO13 Black, also in our catalog, is the traditional all-in-one design TechRadar describes as bulkier.
