About this event

The Chemin de fer forestier d'Abreschviller is a tourist forest railway in the Donon massif, in the Moselle. The operator describes its usual ride as a 12 km route in the Sarre Rouge valley, in restored diesel or steam trains, up to the hamlet of Grand Soldat, where the trip includes a visit to an authentic high-frame sawmill with its bucket wheel; it says the line leaves from the former La Forge sawmill that belonged to the national forestry office.

The Train de la Saint-Nicolas is a separate event held on Saint Nicholas' feast day. The operator's page goes back to the origins of the story of Saint Nicholas and to the legend told to children on that day. Saint Nicholas accompanies a one-hour train ride on which passengers can admire the winter landscape, and on the way back he rewards the well-behaved children with a bag of sweets. There is a single departure, and booking is only through the operator's website.
