Nikolausfahrt — Harzer Schmalspurbahnen

The Harzer Schmalspurbahnen (HSB) offer the Nikolausfahrt as what they call a special highlight of the Christmas season for children. St Nicholas rides along on the journey from Wernigerode to Benneckenstein and prepares a small surprise for the young passengers.

The ticket includes a ride in a steam-hauled regular train, a reserved seat, child-friendly guidance on board, a small Nikolaus surprise for the children and a coffee gathering at the Pension "Blechleppel" in Benneckenstein. Children aged 0 to 5 receive a "small" coffee set. Because the train is a themed special, the operator says it applies no group discounts or free-place rules.

The operator can check further boarding points on request. It reserves the right to cancel the special train if the minimum number of participants is not reached 14 days before the trip. Dogs are not permitted on its special trains, and a claim to all services exists only after written confirmation of the order by its customer service.

Boards at Wernigerode (HSB). The operator says times are approximate and slight deviations are possible; further boarding points can be requested. Tickets are sold through the operator's ticket shop and an order is confirmed in writing by customer service (phone 03943 558145 or 03943 558153, kundenservice@hsb-wr.de). Fare categories: adults, children 6–14, children 0–5 (small coffee set) and a family ticket (two adults with up to three children). No dogs.
