About this event
The Lausitzer Dampflok Club e.V. runs "Advent in der Lausitz" as a one-day special train from Brandenburg to Görlitz. As an alternative to Görlitz it offers the Bautzen Wenzelsmarkt, which the operator describes as the oldest Christmas market in Germany named in a chronicle.
Passengers can stay in Görlitz, with its ice rink, Christmas house and old town, or continue to Bautzen. Two optional excursions can be booked with the ticket: a visit to the Landskron brewery with a brewmaster's tour, tasting, roast Mutz with black-beer sauce and a souvenir (the operator adds a bus shuttle to the Bautzen market), or a one-hour bus tour around Bautzen with a guide. The brewery is a walk of about 1,000 m from the station.
On board, the club's service team sells hearty food and drinks in a snack or bistro car and asks passengers not to bring their own. The operator says the trip only runs if enough passengers book, and that the fare is refunded in full if it is cancelled.
What to expect
A full day by special train: a long ride from Baruth (Mark) in Brandenburg through Cottbus to Görlitz, free time in Görlitz or an onward trip to the Bautzen Wenzelsmarkt, and the return in the evening. Food and drinks are sold in a snack or bistro car. Optional add-ons are a Landskron brewery visit and a bus tour of Bautzen.
Practical info
The train starts at Baruth (Mark) and calls at Luckau-Uckro, Finsterwalde, Calau, Cottbus Hbf, Neuhausen and Spremberg before Görlitz and Bautzen; the operator sells fares from Baruth (Mark) and from Cottbus in 2nd and 1st class, with booking links for Finsterwalde and Baruth. Timetables and routing are provisional. The operator asks passengers not to bring food and drinks. The trip only runs when the minimum number of passengers is reached; the fare is refunded in full if it is cancelled, with no further claims. Optional excursions are booked together with the ticket.
