About this event

The Nickel Plate Express, a heritage railroad based in Forest Park in Noblesville, Indiana, runs Trick or Treat on the Rails as a family-friendly Halloween ride through northern Hamilton County aboard its historic 1956 train. The operator calls it a festive 65-minute ride.

During the ride each child receives a trick-or-treat bag filled with goodies, and all guests can have fresh apple cider. Costumes are encouraged for children and adults alike. The train travels north for 35 minutes to Arcadia, then switches engines and returns to the depot. It is a round trip on the same tracks, not a loop, and passengers stay aboard throughout.

Three classes of seating are sold: Standard Class with airline-style seating, Diamond Class with booth-style seats and Platinum Class with restaurant-style four-person tables, sold by the table. The train is heated and air conditioned, has utilitarian bathrooms and a dining car selling limited food and drink, and runs rain or shine and in snow.

What to expect

A 65-minute round trip north to Arcadia and back, with a trick-or-treat bag of goodies for each child, fresh apple cider for guests, and costumes encouraged for everyone. Passengers stay on the train the whole time. A dining car sells limited food and drinks, card payment only.
