Virtual Railfan's cameras at Muncie overlook both CSX's Indianapolis Line and Norfolk Southern's Frankfort and New Castle Districts. The operator publishes a train count and a speed limit for each of the three, which together add up to about 40 trains a day.

CSX's Indianapolis Line is a former New York Central route, originally part of the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway — the "Big Four". It runs east from Indianapolis towards Bellefontaine, Ohio, and eventually Cleveland. About 11 trains a day, maximum authorised speed 30 mph.
Norfolk Southern's Frankfort District was Nickel Plate Road, a main line linking Peoria, Illinois with Sandusky, Ohio through Bloomington, Lafayette, Frankfort, Muncie, Lima and Fostoria. Today it sees 5 trains a day at up to 40 mph.
Norfolk Southern's New Castle District is also former Nickel Plate, with older roots in the Fort Wayne, Muncie & Cincinnati Railroad. It runs south from Fort Wayne through Muncie and remains busy — around 24 trains a day, but at a maximum of just 15 mph.

What to watch for
Three routes with three different ancestries is the appeal: New York Central "Big Four" heritage on the CSX line, and two separate Nickel Plate Road descendants on the Norfolk Southern side. The New Castle District is the busiest of the three at roughly 24 trains a day, but its 15 mph limit means everything crawls — which is ideal for reading reporting marks.
