About this event

Portsmouth Railex is a model railway exhibition held at Horndean Technology College, in Hampshire, England. The organisers describe it as an independent exhibition that brings together model railway layouts, traders and societies from all around the UK, for visitors from Hampshire and further afield.

It began as a plan by members of Victory Model Railway Club, a Portsmouth club, to turn the club's own one-day show into a two-day event. The club later decided not to continue with the exhibition, which has since been run separately from the club and funded privately, with the aim that it will fund itself. The organisers say it takes place at Horndean Technology College every year.

Visitors vote for the Best Layout in Show using a slip in the show programme, and the organisers announce the winner in the main hall on the Sunday afternoon. A prize raffle runs over the weekend, and the organisers run their own second-hand stall. They say a local charity or project is nominated each year.

What to expect

Model railway layouts, trade stands and society stands from around the UK, shown over a weekend in the main hall. Visitors vote for Best Layout in Show on a slip in the programme, and a prize raffle runs through the weekend.
