About this event

The Interessengemeinschaft Preßnitztalbahn e.V. runs a special booked-in day for photographers and film-makers on its Museumsbahn Steinbach–Jöhstadt. The association calls it a Güterzugtag, a freight-train day: steam trains of the kind that ran on the line in the 1970s and 1980s are run between Jöhstadt and Steinbach and can be photographed and filmed at will.

The operator explains that freight traffic kept steam trains running on the line, officially called the "WJ-Linie" between Wolkenstein and Niederschmiedeberg, after passenger service stopped in 1984 and until the end of 1986. For its photo days it runs locomotives with computer-style numbering, standard-gauge wagons carried on transporter vehicles and narrow-gauge goods and passenger cars, hauled by the association's IV K steam locomotives.

This is a lineside event: the operator states that riding in the photo trains is not possible. Regular Preßnitztalbahn tickets are not valid on the day.
