Halloween Express — SAM Shortline Excursion Train

The SAM Shortline Excursion Train runs its Halloween Express from Georgia Veterans State Park to the town of Plains, Georgia. The operator describes an hour and a half layover in Plains for trunk-or-treat on Main Street, shopping and walking around town, and encourages everyone to dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes. All passengers receive a candy treat on board the train.

The train stops at a flag stop in Americus on the way out and back, and every car and seat is assigned. The operator sells Coach seats, Deluxe, Premium and Chairman's Class tickets, with the higher classes including drinks and snacks, and its booking page lists the trip as about five hours long.

An evening trip of about five hours: the train runs to Plains, where there is a one-and-a-half hour layover for trunk-or-treat on Main Street, shopping and walking around town, then returns to the park. Costumes are encouraged and every passenger receives a candy treat on board. All cars and seats are assigned.
