We have not tested it ourselves: strengths and weaknesses below come from the tests cited.

Why Railfans Carry It

Bachmann's page for the Assorted Straight Short Sections lists the contents plainly: six sections, two each of 4.5", 2.25" and 1.125". It says the sections are designed to provide layout flexibility and can also be used as gap fillers in more sophisticated railroad construction. The retail card in the manufacturer's photograph repeats that sentence in small print and adds the wording "2 pieces per section". The same N-scale E-Z Track category on Bachmann's site also lists longer straights: the 5-inch straight, whose page says its six pieces build 30 inches of railroad, and the 10-inch straight, whose page says its six pieces build 5 feet. The 4.5-inch piece in this card is therefore a little shorter than the shortest of those two, and the 2.25-inch and 1.125-inch pieces are shorter still.

In the Field

The card photograph carries the E-Z Track System badge, which says the track snaps together, stays together on floors, tables and carpets, needs no nails, screws or special tools, and assembles in minutes. Those are Bachmann's own statements about the system, printed on this card. The page gives the model number 44829, a shipping weight of 0.124 lbs, the scale as N 1:160, and a recommended age of 14 and up. The page describes the pieces as layout-flexibility and gap-filler sections; it does not give a connection method or rail-joiner details for this card, so anything beyond the card's own snap-together statement is not covered by the listing.

Who It’s For

An adult building or extending an N-scale layout with Bachmann E-Z Track who has a run that full-length straights cannot fill and wants shorter pieces to close the gap, or a gift buyer matching a Bachmann N-scale track system for a hobbyist aged 14 or older. It contains straight sections only: curves, turnouts and the terminal rerailer with wire are separate listings in Bachmann's N-scale E-Z Track category.

Alternatives

The Assorted Short Connector Sections (44899) are the shorter option: Bachmann's page lists eight pieces, two each of 0.75", 0.875", 1.125" and 1.5" per card, with the same gap-filler description. The 5" Straight Track (44811) is the longer, full-length straight: its page says the six pieces in the package build 30" of railroad.
