Why Railfans Carry It

Bachmann's page says the 8 pieces of track in this package are designed to provide layout flexibility and can also be used as gap fillers in more sophisticated railroad construction. The card lists the contents exactly: two each of 0.75 inch, 0.875 inch, 1.125 inches and 1.5 inches. At N scale, 1:160, those lengths stand for real track: 0.75 inch is 120 inches or 10 feet, 0.875 inch is 140 inches, 1.125 inches is 180 inches or 15 feet, and 1.5 inches is 240 inches or 20 feet (arithmetic on the page's lengths and scale, not Bachmann's wording). For a hobbyist who has moved from watching trains to building a layout, these pieces come in four distinct sizes, so a card offers a choice of length where a gap needs filling.

In the Field

Bachmann's page gives the purpose, layout flexibility and gap filling, and the product photograph shows the card with its package text: nickel silver rails, the E-Z Track System panel, the contents line, and a line directing the reader to the back of the package for the full product description and suggested layout uses. That back text is not reproduced on the manufacturer's web page, so this listing does not repeat it. The package panel says E-Z Track snaps together, stays together on floors, tables and carpets, and needs no nails, screws or special tools. A neighbouring Bachmann item, the Assorted Straight Short Sections (44829), is described with the same purpose and holds six sections, two each of 4.5, 2.25 and 1.125 inches; the two cards overlap only at 1.125 inches, so they cover different gap lengths. For the standard lengths those short pieces fill between, Bachmann's 5-inch straight card (44811) builds 30 inches of railroad with its 6 pieces, and the 10-inch straight card (44815) builds 5 feet.

Who It’s For

An adult building an N-scale layout from separate E-Z Track sections who meets a gap that standard lengths do not close, or a gift buyer topping up a hobbyist's Bachmann N-scale track at ages 14 and up. It is a track accessory, not a starter set: a locomotive, power pack and the main track sections are separate.

Alternatives

The Assorted Straight Short Sections (44829) are the longer short pieces, two each of 4.5, 2.25 and 1.125 inches, with the same stated purpose. The 5" Straight Track (44811) and 10" Straight (44815), six to the card, are the regular straight sections these pieces adjust between.
