Why Railfans Carry It

Bachmann introduces the model with one line, "Instant buildings for your railroad!", and says the already-assembled model shown on the page will add interest and realism to any N scale layout. Bachmann's Plasticville N-scale category page says hobbyists and collectors have made Plasticville U.S.A. products their structures of choice, and that many are still produced from their original molds. The same category page says many buildings and accessories have been added to the Plasticville line throughout its history, and that buyers can join the independent Plasticville Collectors Association.

In the Field

The listing is short. It gives the model number 45908, a shipping weight of 0.25 lbs, the scale as N 1:160, and a recommended age of 14 and up. Bachmann's N-scale Plasticville category lists eight items in all: Coaling Station, Country Church, Drive-In Bank, Drive-In Burger Stand, Factory, Freight Station, Gas Station and this Passenger Station. The Freight Station (45907) uses the same "Instant buildings" wording and the same N 1:160 scale, so the two stations are described in matching terms. Bachmann describes the model as already assembled, and its category page calls these pre-assembled Plasticville U.S.A. buildings. Bachmann's Getting Started page calls N scale (1:160) the smallest size of train it offers and gives a typical railcar in that scale as 4 inches by 3/4 inch. The same page says starting in N scale will give you the most room to grow your railroad over time. Bachmann's page for this model lists a shipping weight of 0.25 lbs; the neighbouring Country Church (45815), Factory (45902) and Gas Station (45904) pages each list 0.4 lbs, the same N 1:160 scale and the same recommended age of 14 and up. The Product Safety page linked from Bachmann's listing states that the product conforms to all federal safety regulations.

Who It’s For

An adult N-scale builder who wants a ready-made passenger station building beside the track without assembling a kit, or a gift buyer for a hobbyist aged 14 or older, including someone drawn to the Plasticville name and its collecting history. It is a building only: track, trains and power are separate.

Alternatives

The Freight Station (45907) is the neighbouring building in the same N-scale Plasticville line, with the same page wording and a shipping weight of 0.4 lbs. The Country Church (45815) and the Factory (45902) are two other Plasticville N-scale buildings on Bachmann's site, each listed at N 1:160 with the same Instant buildings wording.
