About this event

Bressanone Express is a special charter train sold by Pallenium Tourism, which runs it together with the historic-rolling-stock association ARSMS ETS (Associazione Rotabili Storici Milano Smistamento) and in collaboration with Fondazione FS Italiane. It carries passengers from Milano Centrale and Brescia to Bolzano and Bressanone, in South Tyrol, for the Christmas markets.

The train is made up of vintage carriages: the operator names the "tipo 1959 Bz 45000" type and the 1964 "tipo UIC-X" type. Both first and second class are sold. A bar service runs in a dedicated carriage, and ARSMS staff are on board to give assistance and talk about the convoy.

The operator presents the day as a way to reach one of the most requested Christmas destinations in Italy without worrying about traffic, queues or parking. Its page describes the stop at Bolzano, with the markets on Piazza Walther a few steps from the station, and the stop at Bressanone, the end of the line for the day, with the Christmas market a little over ten minutes' walk from the station.

What to expect

A long same-day trip in vintage carriages, with first- or second-class seats, a bar carriage and ARSMS volunteers on board, then free time at the Christmas markets of Bolzano and Bressanone. Dogs up to 20 kg are allowed free on a lead.
