About this event

Hedelands Veteranbane runs a Christmas train on the last three weekends before Christmas, Saturday and Sunday. The train leaves from Hedehusgården near Hedehusene station and runs to Rubjerg Station in Hedeland, where visitors can pick up this year's Christmas tree and other Christmas goods.

At Rubjerg the scout group De Gule Spejdere from Hedehusene runs a Christmas cabin selling hot mulled wine, æbleskiver, coffee, cocoa and other Christmas treats. The Christmas trees are packed in netting and come back on the train. The operator also notes there is room for a sledge if you want to slide down the Rubjerg sledging hill.

The operator describes its line as a 5 km train ride through the former gravel-pit area of Hedeland. It is run by the volunteer members of Industribaneklubben, and any surplus from operations goes to restoring and preserving the narrow-gauge railway equipment.

What to expect

A ride of about 20 minutes each way into Hedeland. Warm blankets can be borrowed on the train for free. At Rubjerg Station the scouts' Christmas cabin sells mulled wine, æbleskiver, coffee and cocoa, and Christmas trees are sold and carried back on the train. There is a longer break in the timetable around lunchtime so the staff can eat.

Practical info

Boards at Hedelands Veteranbane, Brandhøjgårdsvej 2, 2640 Hedehusene, with parking at the entrance from Brandhøjgårdsvej; by train it is a five-minute walk from Hedehusene station along Hovedgaden under the railway. Seats cannot be reserved in advance: tickets are sold at the ticket office and on board, and there is usually room if you arrive 15 minutes before departure. Card, MobilePay and cash are accepted at the ticket office; on board the operator no longer carries change. At Christmas the train runs only to the scouts' Christmas cabin at Rubjerg, not to Fem Ege or Plantagen. Pushchairs fit in the guard's van, with priority over other wagons. A kiosk at the station sells gifts and refreshments.
