About this event

Nordsjællands Veterantog runs a Christmas train from København H. via Hellerup to Helsingør on the Kystbanen, with a visit to the "Jul på Kronborg" Christmas market at Kronborg Castle. The operator says all trains are run with its Norwegian diesel railcar set built in 1954.

The operator describes Kronborg as hosting one of Denmark's largest Christmas markets, with stalls, a food market, children's workshops where children can make gifts, decorations and sweets, readings of Christmas tales, Christmas jazz and gospel concerts, and Father Christmas receiving wishes. The castle can be explored on the same visit.

The trip can be bought with or without catering. The operator says a ticket with catering includes coffee, tea, cocoa, beer or water and three warm apple fritters on the outward journey and cake on the way home.

What to expect

A day trip by heritage railcar along the Kystbanen to Helsingør and the Christmas market at Kronborg Castle, with the return journey in the afternoon. Catering is optional; without it passengers may bring their own packed lunch and drinks.

Practical info

The train leaves from København H. and stops at Hellerup; it returns from Helsingør. Passengers should arrive at least 15 minutes before departure and check the timetable the day before. Tickets with seat reservation are sold online only; ticket e-mails arrive straight after purchase and the seat reservation up to 5 days later, so late buyers should ask the train staff for seats. Return tickets only. Children under 3 sit on a parent's lap for free; a seat needs a child ticket. Prams need a separate pram ticket. Dogs are not carried because dogs are not admitted to Kronborg Castle. Contact: Nordsjællands Veterantog, Græsted Stationsvej 84, 3230 Græsted, +45 48 70 89 35.
