About this event

The New York Transit Museum and MTA New York City Transit continue an annual tradition of Holiday Nostalgia Rides aboard vintage 1930s subway cars. The Holiday Nostalgia Train features eight cars of the R1/9 type, which served on lettered lines through the late 1970s; they were built for the first subway company operated by the City of New York, with rattan seats, paddle ceiling fans, incandescent bulbs, roll signs and period advertisements.

The operator says the rides are free with a regular subway fare. In its most recent season the train ran on Sundays in December, departing from 2 Av-Houston St on the uptown F line and from 96 St-2 Av on the Q line, and stopped at stations including Broadway-Lafayette St, West 4 St-Washington Sq, 34 St-Herald Sq, 42 St-Bryant Park and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center.
