According to the operator's flyer the museum railway is run in non-profit public ownership by volunteer members of the Öchsle Schmalspurbahn association; the operator calls the Nikolausfahrten the popular Öchsle trips with the Nikolaus.

The Nikolaus visits the Öchsle on the second Advent weekend, starting already on the Friday. Together with Knecht Ruprecht he walks through the cars during the journey and brings every passenger a small bag of treats; the Nikolaus gift is included for all passengers.

The trains run from Warthausen to Maselheim and back, and the operator's timetable gives about two hours and fifteen minutes for the trip. A festive refreshment is offered at Maselheim. Reservation is required, and the operator says payment is made on site.
