Nikolausfahrten — Sauschwänzlebahn

The Sauschwänzlebahn, run by Bahnbetriebe Blumberg from Blumberg-Zollhaus station in the Black Forest, offers Nikolaus trips in its Advent programme. The operator invites passengers to a nostalgic journey through the wintry Black Forest in lovingly decorated carriages.

At Fützen station the Nikolaus waits in person, with a full sack and a small surprise for every child. He is there at set times in the late afternoon and early evening, and the operator guarantees that on every return trip passengers will meet him either before, between or after their ride at Fützen.

Trips can begin at Blumberg-Zollhaus station, whose building the operator says was built in 1889 on a raised bog on 224 spruce piles; the former goods shed now houses a railway museum. Trains also start from Fützen, with a stop at Epfenhofen on the way.

Online booking is possible up to 48 hours before departure; after that, the operator says reservations by phone are possible if capacity remains. Groups of 15 or more cannot book online and must reserve by phone, and holders of a Drei-Welten-Card cannot book a free ticket online.
