About this event

The Rhätische Bahn sells the "Engadiner Dampffahrt Scuol" as one of its nostalgic trips and describes it as a nostalgic winter journey. The steam train runs from Samedan through the Engadine along the Inn to Scuol-Tarasp, with stops at S-chanf, a lunch break in Scuol-Tarasp and a return via Zernez.

The operator highlights the first class in a Belle-Époque compartment: four compartments of 1903 with 6 seats each (maximum 24 seats), with an aperitif or coffee and pastries available on pre-booking. A bistro in the middle of the train is run by the Historic RhB gastronomy team of the Club1889 and the Verein Dampffreunde RhB; take-away is also available.

The ticket includes tour guidance, the bistro car and a photo stop where possible. At the lunch stop in Scuol-Tarasp the operator mentions a barley soup served on the platform, which is not included in the fare.

What to expect

A day-long steam train journey in the Engadine with tour guidance, a bistro car and a photo stop where possible, a lunch stop in Scuol-Tarasp and the option of first class in a 1903 Belle-Époque compartment with an aperitif or coffee on pre-booking.

Practical info

Starts and ends in Samedan. The number of seats is limited; reservation is possible online, at staffed RhB stations or through the Verein Dampffreunde der Rhätischen Bahn. Partial-route tickets are only sold on the day on the train. The first-class upgrade is booked separately with the RhB Historic gastronomy team. Dogs are allowed; depending on size, a dog ticket is needed. Participation is only partly possible for people with reduced mobility (for example with a foldable wheelchair); contact the Railservice at +41 81 288 65 65.
