About this event

The Waterloo Central Railway celebrates Canadian Thanksgiving weekend with a special heritage ride behind Steam Locomotive No. 9, an MLW 0-6-0 built in 1923. The round-trip steam excursion leaves the railway's Farmers' Market Station, runs to Elmira and returns, with two departures on the day.

The operator highlights a classic steam run-past: passengers are let off the train at a designated location to photograph and watch No. 9 pass under steam against the farmland of Waterloo Region, then reboard for the rest of the journey. The run-past is weather permitting and does not take place when conditions are rainy, wet or muddy.

What to expect

A round trip of about two hours through the autumn countryside of Waterloo Region to Elmira and back, behind No. 9, with the sights and sounds of steam and one run-past photo stop (weather permitting).
