All Railway Mega Projects

This directory tracks the long horizons of rail — the high-speed lines, base tunnels, viaducts, metro extensions, and freight corridors that take ten or twenty years to build and reshape entire regions when they finally open. 4 projects are currently profiled, spanning proposals on the drawing board, projects under active construction, partially opened lines still completing their final phases, and recently inaugurated corridors. Together they form the most consequential rail story of the next two decades.

Each profile follows the same structure: project status, lead developer and main contractors, total length, design speed, budget and funding sources, key engineering challenges (long tunnels, river crossings, mountain alignments, cross- border coordination), and a chronological milestone timeline backed by source URLs from operator press releases, government announcements, and verified industry reporting. Where The B1M, Practical Engineering, or other reputable channels have published documentary footage, we embed it directly. The aim is to give you the full context of a project — not just the marketing version — so you can follow the story as construction progresses and compare projects across regions.

Use the directory below to scan all projects alphabetically. Each entry shows the current project status, the route endpoints, and the total length when known. Click through for the full profile, including engineering details, milestone timeline, related spotting locations along the alignment, and any epic journeys that will use the new infrastructure once it opens. Missing a project, or noticed a milestone we have not yet recorded? The contact form takes about thirty seconds and every report is reviewed.
