About this event

The Black River & Western Railroad runs the BDRV #752 Photo Special as a one-day-only photo charter curated for railfans. The operator highlights its GP-9 diesel No. 752, known as "Harold", leading a modern freight consist, and describes the day as the last chance to photograph the locomotive in its historic livery before it receives a new paint job.

The operator sells three packages. The Daytime Session runs between Ringoes and Flemington stations with several exclusive photo stops that are typically inaccessible to the average photographer, plus runbys featuring actors with props. The Nighttime Session features professionally staged and lit static photo opportunities in at least two planned locations, again with runbys featuring actors and props. The Combination Session includes both, plus a complimentary pizza dinner between the sessions.

The event is held rain or shine, some features may change with the weather, and the operator reserves the right to substitute motive power at any time. Ticket holders receive a more detailed itinerary a few days before the date.

What to expect

Check-in at Ringoes Station about 10:00 am for the daytime session, which starts at 10:30 am and ends about 5:00 pm; the nighttime session checks in about 5:30 pm, starts at 6:00 pm and ends about 10:00 pm. Guests are encouraged to bring a simple packed lunch to eat on board between photo stops. Ticket holders bring their own photography equipment, for example a camera and a tripod. Some photo locations require walking over rough, uneven or unpaved ground.

Practical info

Check-in is at Ringoes Station, 105 John Ringo Road, Ringoes, New Jersey; the daytime session then runs between Ringoes and Flemington stations (Flemington Station, 80 Stangl Road, has no restrooms). Restrooms are on the lower level of Ringoes Station; limited facilities on board are for emergencies only and not guaranteed. Anyone under 15 must be accompanied by a paying adult and the operator does not recommend the event for young children. Sturdy footwear such as steel-toed boots and long pants (no shorts) are required. The railroad is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to cameras or other equipment. Phone: 908-782-6622.
