About this event

Dynamo Productions runs this photo charter in partnership with the Strasburg Rail Road in Ronks, Pennsylvania. For two days the railroad's Canadian National No. 89 steam locomotive is given an extensive cosmetic overhaul to resemble Boston & Maine B-15 Mogul No. 1397. The organizer says this is not a magnet set or vinyl stickers: the locomotive receives a new headlight, headlight bracket, number plate, handrails, marker light brackets and the Boston & Maine numbering and lettering. It describes No. 1397 as the first B&M-lettered steam locomotive to operate in nearly 70 years.

The charter offers freight, mixed and passenger consists across the two days, recreating what the organizer calls authentic late-steam branchline operations. A freight day, a passenger day, freight night, morning and afternoon sessions and a combined ticket are sold as separate ticket types.

Dynamo Productions says photo charters give participants access to designated private locations chosen for lighting and operating conditions, where the train performs runbys to recreate railroad operations, and, in the organizer's general description of its photo charters, historic buildings, vintage automobiles, accurate props and period actors help bring each scene to life. Participants must be 12 or older; those aged 12 to 17 attend with a parent or guardian, who pays no ticket fee if not photographing.

What to expect

The organizer's ticket page lists the event hours as 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on both days. Sessions are sold separately: a freight day, a passenger day, a freight night session, a mixed freight morning, a freight afternoon and evening, and two passenger sessions; the organizer gives no separate hours for the night session. Once the event sells out the organizer emails ticket holders a basic itinerary and ticket pick-up information. Dynamo Productions reserves the right to change the date, features and equipment of an event.
