Virtual Railfan's Paradise camera, hosted by the Strasburg Rail Road Company, overlooks Leaman Place Junction in Lancaster County — the point where the oldest short line railroad in America meets Amtrak's Keystone Corridor and Norfolk Southern locals. That combination is what makes the location unusual. Strasburg's steam-powered excursions, hauled by locomotives 89, 90 and 475 — with visits from Thomas and Percy for the family events — cross paths with Amtrak's Keystone Service, which runs between Harrisburg and Philadelphia with most trains continuing to New York City. The operator gives the speeds: up to 125 mph on the Northeast Corridor and 110 mph on the Keystone Corridor. Three channels are monitored: Amtrak Road on 160.800 (AAR 46), Norfolk Southern Road for the Harrisburg Line on 161.070 (AAR 64), and the Strasburg Rail Road's own road channel on 161.235 (AAR 75). What to watch for
Steam and modern electric traction in the same frame is a genuinely rare sight, and it is the whole reason for this camera. Strasburg locomotives 89, 90 and 475 work the excursion service; Amtrak Keystone Service trains run fast between Harrisburg and Philadelphia; Norfolk Southern locals work the Harrisburg Line. Listening on the Strasburg road channel (161.235) tells you when an excursion is about to come down to the junction. Family-event days bring Thomas and Percy, which changes the character of the traffic entirely.
