Virtual Railfan's pan-tilt-zoom camera sits at the historic J Tower in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, looking over the boarding platform of the Strasburg Rail Road — the operator's own words are "America's oldest shortline railroad". Hosted by the railroad itself, it watches steam locomotives Nos. 89, 90 and 475 take on passengers for excursions through Lancaster County.
Virtual Railfan states the position plainly: the camera "is located at the historic J Tower, overlooking the boarding platform of America's oldest shortline railroad." It is a pan-tilt-zoom unit, listed on the channel as the "Strasburg Camera (PTZ)", and the operator credits its host directly — "Special thanks to our host, the Strasburg Rail Road Company." The live stream has run since 27 July 2019 by the operator's own account.
What passes is heritage steam. The operator names locomotives Nos. 89, 90 and 475 among the engines in service, and points to special event trains featuring Thomas and Percy. The description gives a listening frequency for anyone scanning alongside: 161.235 MHz (AAR 75), the Strasburg Rail Road road channel.
One thing worth stating because it is the standing confusion about this town: the camera does not film the museum. Virtual Railfan is explicit — "Across the street is the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, a separate institution and one of the finest railroad museums in the country, featuring more than 100 historic locomotives and railcars, many restored to display condition." Nor is this the operator's Leaman Place camera: that is a second, separate installation at Paradise, six kilometres east, where the Strasburg Rail Road meets Amtrak's Keystone Corridor.
