About this event

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, Nevada, runs the Santa Train on selected weekends in the weeks before Christmas. The museum describes it as a magical holiday adventure for families, perfect for young ones and those young at heart. Riders take a short train ride and visit with Santa, and every rider receives a candy cane.

Before or after the ride, riders can write a letter to Santa in the museum's cozy depot. The operator's train schedule lists V&T locomotive No. 25 for the Santa Train and states that all equipment and fares are subject to change without notice.

With museum admission added, visitors can also see historic locomotives and cars decorated for the holiday season in the Jacobsen Interpretive Center, more historic equipment in the Annex, and the Carson City Model Railroad Association exhibit, and can take a handcar ride if weather permits.

The museum says it is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the heritage of Nevada's railroads. It calls the Santa Train a long-standing tradition for Nevada families and says the train fills up quickly.
