Downtown Truckee, on Union Pacific's Roseville Subdivision
Truckee's historic downtown grew up alongside the railroad: the town was renamed Truckee in 1867 in anticipation of the Central Pacific Railroad, whose transcontinental line over Donner Pass reached the town in 1868. Today the tracks running past Commercial Row belong to Union Pacific's Roseville Subdivision, the same route the Central Pacific pioneered across the Sierra Nevada.
Amtrak's Truckee station, at 10065 Donner Pass Road about 160 m from this camera, is served once daily in each direction by the California Zephyr (Chicago–Emeryville). The nearest grade crossing to this camera, at Bridge Street, sits roughly 70 m away on the same Roseville Subdivision.
