About this event

The Chelten Hills Model Railroad Club was founded on February 7, 1946 as the Germantown HO Engineers and moved to Elkins Park, Pennsylvania in 1962. It maintains a 25-by-80-foot HO scale, DCC-controlled layout, which it calls the Penn Falls Railroad, in a former freight and passenger station alongside the SEPTA regional rail line between the Elkins Park and Jenkintown stations.

According to the club, the building was built by the North Pennsylvania Railroad as its Old York Road station before 1855. The club's layout page describes a main freight yard, an engine facility and roundhouse, a river with a docked ship and an operating lift bridge, an operating carnival and the city of Penn Falls with its major passenger station and yard.

The club publishes a schedule of public open houses for each season, and its history page mentions an open house as long ago as December 1961.
