About this event

The East Anglian Railway Museum, at Chappel and Wakes Colne station in Essex, holds a New Year's Steam day on 1 January each year. The operator invites visitors to celebrate the new year with a visit to the museum and a ride on a train hauled by a real steam engine.

The operator says the ticket gives unlimited rides on a train hauled by one of its vintage steam locomotives, with the museum buildings, trains, displays and exhibits open as well. It also plans to run its Miniature Railway, which cannot run in poor weather.

The operator describes these days as a firm family favourite, with rides in vintage wagons or carriages pulled by one of its restored steam engines. The museum is a registered charity run by volunteers and its site covers over ten acres.

What to expect

Unlimited rides on a train hauled by one of the museum's vintage steam locomotives, with the museum buildings and exhibits open. The Miniature Railway is planned to run if the weather allows. The Platform Two Cafe is open, serving breakfast, lunch and snacks.
