About this event

The Autumn Steam Gala is the East Lancashire Railway's last large-scale steam event of the year. The operator describes a weekend of steam-powered glory, with an intensive, all-steam timetable behind the railway's home fleet and visiting guest locomotives, and all the usual bells and whistles of an ELR gala.

Around the main timetable the operator sells a range of separately booked extras: brake van rides on a freight train from Bury Bolton Street to Ramsbottom and back (about 1 hour 15 minutes), footplate rides, an evening night goods train, an observation saloon cream tea in a Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway saloon, and a fish and chip special. For the footplate rides, the night goods train, the cream tea and the fish and chip special, the operator requires a gala ticket or rover for the same day.

The railway's stations are Heywood, Bury Bolton Street, Burrs Country Park, Summerseat, Ramsbottom, Irwell Vale and Rawtenstall. A gala timetable is published for download, and the operator also publishes a safety notice for the event.

What to expect

Three days of all-steam running on the East Lancashire line with home-fleet and guest locomotives. Optional extras include brake van rides, footplate rides, a night goods train, a cream tea in the observation saloon and a fish and chip special; these are booked separately.
