About this event

The East Lancashire Railway runs its Halloween Ghost Trains from Bury Bolton Street Station, in the run-up to Halloween. The operator builds the evening around a spooky story and a cast of Halloween characters.

Guests first make their way through a Halloween walkthrough on the footbridge, where the operator warns to expect jump scares. On the platform they are greeted by characters, including Vampire Brian and Veronica the Witch, before boarding the "Scream Train". The operator describes the train as dark, with flickering lights, eerie sounds and creepy surprises, and says fancy dress is encouraged.

The round trip from Bury lasts about an hour and passengers must stay on board throughout. Bury Bolton Street has a buffet on Platform 3 serving drinks, snacks and warm pies, the Trackside Bar on Platform 2, and a barbecue on Platforms 3 and 4. For visitors who would rather avoid the limited parking in Bury, the railway runs Halloween shuttle trains from Heywood, where there is a larger car park; a valid Halloween Ghost Train ticket must be shown with the shuttle ticket.

What to expect

A Halloween walkthrough on the footbridge with jump scares, characters on the platform, then roughly one hour on board the Scream Train with flickering lights and eerie sounds. Passengers stay on the train. Toilets are on the train and on the platform at Bury.
