About this event

The Kuckucksbähnel, the museum railway of the DGEG Eisenbahnmuseum in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, offers this winter trip as an addition to its Nikolaus trains. The operator describes it as an additional pre-Christmas trip for everyone who wants a cosy and atmospheric outing to the Christmas market at Elmstein station.

It is a different product from the family Nikolaus trains: the train is not accompanied by the Nikolaus and there is no torch walk from Breitenstein. The destination is the Christmas market right at Elmstein station, where the operator lists handicrafts and several food and drink stalls in a pre-Christmas atmosphere.

The operator says the trip is meant to stay deliberately cosy and contemplative, not a party trip, and is aimed above all at individual guests, couples and small groups. Group size is limited to a maximum of 30 people. The ride leaves Neustadt main station in the afternoon and returns in the evening.

What to expect

A trip through the Elmstein valley to the Christmas market at Elmstein station, planned to leave Neustadt around 15:00 and be back around 19:00. There is no Nikolaus and no torch walk. The operator wants it cosy and contemplative rather than a party trip.

Practical info

Departs from and returns to Neustadt; the operator's museum trains normally leave from Neustadt main station. A single flat fare applies regardless of age; children under 4 travel free and toddlers up to and including age 3 get no seat of their own. Seats are reserved and tickets on one invoice are seated together; the train has a single class, with wooden or upholstered seats allocated at random. Booking is online with an invoice payable within ten days, otherwise the whole order is cancelled automatically. Groups of more than 30 people (small children included) cannot be accepted. The train follows a timetable and does not wait for late guests. Phone: 06321 30390.
