About this event

The Advent Expressz Pozsony–Brno is a one-day special train from Budapest-Nyugati to Bratislava-Petržalka and Brno and back, run by MÁV Nosztalgia (brand MRT) as one of its "MRT Express" trains. It leaves in the very early morning, with further boarding at Budapest-Kelenföld, Tatabánya, Komárom, Győr and Mosonmagyaróvár.

The operator presents Bratislava as the Slovak capital with Christmas markets on the main square and on Hviezdoslav Square, and Brno as the "little Prague" of Moravia, where passengers can browse the Christmas market stalls. Passengers choose among several classes of carriage, from Standard cars with four-seat boxes to Panorama and Residence classes.

Optional programmes are sold on top of the fare: a guided walk in Bratislava (starting at Petržalka station, using city buses), a guided walk in Brno with audio guides, and a ride on Brno's "beer tram" with one beer included.

What to expect

A very early start from Budapest and a late return the same night. The draft timetable has the train in Brno from the late morning to late afternoon and passing through Bratislava-Petržalka on both legs. Free time for the Advent markets or optional guided walks; the operator asks passengers to find their own way back to the train station.

Practical info

Boards at Budapest-Nyugati, with further boarding at Budapest-Kelenföld, Tatabánya, Komárom, Győr and Mosonmagyaróvár. A valid passport or ID card allowing border crossing is needed. Bratislava walkers pay local bus tickets and optional entry fees on the spot. Child fares are for ages 4 to 14; younger children travel free without a seat. Passengers must be back at the station in time, since the timetable cannot be changed for latecomers.
