Nikolausfahrten — Museumseisenbahn Hamm

The Museumseisenbahn Hamm (MEH), based at the Betriebswerk Hamm Süd, offers its Nikolausfahrten on the second Advent weekend as a nostalgia train on the Ruhr-Lippe-Eisenbahn from the depot at Hamm Süd/RLG via the Maximilianpark halt to Lippborg-Heintrop and back. The operator describes a historic, steam-heated train of 1950s carriages hauled by locomotive 212 079-8, and sells each departure as its own trip in its ticket shop.

After the stop at Maximilianpark the operator says the Nikolaus walks through the train, visits all the children, talks and sings with them and hands out his gifts. In its reports on earlier runs the operator describes a bag of treats for each child and Christmas carols with the Nikolaus on the platform at Lippborg-Heintrop.

A bistro on board serves warm and cold drinks, small snacks, coffee and cake, and for these trips also mulled wine, children's punch and hot chocolate. First and second class seats are offered, and a Christmas mug can be added as an extra; the operator says the mug is handed out only on its Nikolaus trips and on its Christmas-market trip.

A round trip of about two and a half hours from Hamm Süd/RLG via Maximilianpark to Lippborg-Heintrop and back, with a stop of about half an hour at the turning point. The Nikolaus walks through the train and visits all the children; drinks and snacks are served on board.

Trains board at the depot of the Museumseisenbahn at Hamm Süd/RLG (Lokschuppen, Schumannstraße 35, platform 10) and about 15 minutes later at the Maximilianpark halt (platform 1); Lippborg-Heintrop is the turning point. Tickets are ordered through the operator's ticket shop, one trip at a time, in first or second class. Dogs cannot be taken on these trips. The operator states that the times shown on the trip pages are confirmed times.
