About this cam

Le Train de La Rhune presents this live camera on its own website, in partnership with the webcam network Vision-Environnement. It looks out from the summit (905 m) over the Basque coast and the Atlantic, with the rack-railway track and its overhead wires running along the bottom left of the picture.

The page is titled "La Rhune en direct" on rhune.com, the official site of Le Train de La Rhune, and plays a Vision-Environnement live player titled "Live La Rhune". Vision-Environnement describes the project as made in partnership with Le Train de La Rhune and says the camera lets viewers watch conditions at the summit: the weather, the visibility over the Basque coast and the atmosphere of the site through the hours and seasons.

The railway is an authentic rack railway dating from 1924 that climbs to the summit; the operator's own page says it runs every day from 28 March to 1 November. In the frame that was checked, the toothed rack track curves along the slope at the bottom left under two overhead wires, with the coast, the bay and the Atlantic stretching away to the horizon and "La Rhune Sommet" and a clock burned into the image.

Vision-Environnement also keeps 30 days of archived timelapses of this camera on its player.

What to watch for

The rack-railway track and its overhead wires at the summit; the train arriving at the top in season (the operator runs it 28 March to 1 November). Between trains, the weather, clouds and visibility over the Basque coast.
