A live view over Fenqihu, the mountain village that became the biggest intermediate maintenance stop on Taiwan's Alishan Forest Railway after its 1912 opening, famous for its railway bento culture.
Fenqihu sits in Chiayi County at about 1,400 m altitude. After the Alishan Forest Railway was completed in 1912, its station became the line's biggest intermediate maintenance stop: trains carrying timber and workers would linger here, and because that usually fell around midday, crews and passengers took their break here too -- giving rise to Fenqihu's railway bento (lunch box) culture and turning the village into the largest trading centre along the line.
