About this event

The Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society, a volunteer-run non-profit that has breathed new life into the historic BC Electric Railway, runs the Electric Express as its annual Christmas event at Cloverdale Station in Surrey. The operator presents it as a nostalgic trip back to Christmas of the past.

The experience starts in the station, where there is live music and carols, continues on a short train ride on the society's own track, and ends with a visit to Father Christmas's workshop in the Car Barn. The whole outing takes about 50 minutes.

Guests are asked to arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before their departure to pick up boarding passes at the ticket counter and to enjoy the Christmas music. The event is run by the society's volunteers and, according to the operator, sells out fast. The same society also runs summer excursions from Cloverdale Station and a separate Halloween event.

What to expect

About 50 minutes in total: live music and carols at the station, a short train ride on the society's own track, then a visit to Father Christmas's workshop in the Car Barn. The operator asks guests to arrive at least 30 minutes early to collect boarding passes and take in the Christmas music.

Practical info

Cloverdale Station, Highway 10 and 176A Street, Cloverdale (Surrey), behind the Clydesdale Inn. Passenger parking is on the east (Highway 10) side of the station; the operator asks guests not to park in the Clydesdale Inn or Country Diner lots. The time on the ticket is the departure time, boarding starts 10 minutes before, and visitors arriving after the train is loaded cannot board. The society's ticket information says Cloverdale Station and its heritage Interurbans are accessible: wheelchair passengers must be able to transfer to a transit wheelchair to pass through the narrow train doorways and to the fixed seating on the train. Accessible washrooms are at the station. Pets are not permitted; service animals are welcome. All purchases are final, with refunds only if the operator cancels for operational reasons. Motive power, schedules and fares are subject to change without notice, and adverse weather or technical or safety problems may prevent operations.
