About this event

Nassau Lionel Operating Engineers, Inc. is a not-for-profit model railroad club founded in June 1983 and based in Levittown, New York. It opens its layout to the public on open house days through the year; the club says it averages about ten open house days a year and that admission to every open house is always free.

The club describes its layout as Long Island's largest operating O-gauge layout, built by hand by club members. It lists more than 1,800 feet of track, four main loops, two active yards and more than 500 accessories, with a mountain line, subway lines, a working trolley line and a working roundhouse.

Every December the club runs holiday open houses. According to the club, trains run past lit-up villages, among them the Polar Express, a North Pole locomotive, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train and Thomas the Tank Engine and friends.

What to expect

Trains run throughout the open house, and the club says everyone is welcome, from first-time visitors to lifelong collectors. No ticket is needed; the club's website has an optional RSVP form that helps it plan and keeps visitors informed of schedule changes.
