Samichlausfahrt — Zentralbahn

The Zentralbahn runs its traditional Samichlausfahrt on a Saturday in early December. The trip described by the operator leads to Maria-Rickenbach, a car-free mountain village above Niederrickenbach, and is run together with Radio Central.

A historic extra train of the foundation for the Zentralbahn's historic heritage leaves Lucerne for Niederrickenbach; from there a cable car takes the passengers up. At the top station the Samichlaus and his entourage wait for the children, and the group walks to the Pilgerhaus. In the chapel next to the church the Samichlaus listens to each child's verse. There is a craft corner, and punch, coffee, cake and warm dishes are on sale.

When dusk falls the group returns by cable car and by the extra train to Lucerne. Every child takes home a Samichlaussäckli and what they have crafted.

A historic train ride to Niederrickenbach, a cable-car ride to Maria-Rickenbach, a walk to the Pilgerhaus, the Samichlaus in the chapel who listens to each child's verse, Advent crafts, and a return by cable car and train in the evening.

The cable car shuttles run roughly every 8 to 10 minutes with a maximum of 30 people per trip; folding prams can be taken on the train but not on the cable car, for lack of space. Seating on the train and in the restaurant is not reserved. Included: train and cable car, a drink voucher for the Pilgerhaus, punch on the way, a Samichlaussäckli and Advent crafts for all children. Dogs travel free. Tickets only through Eventfrog, no sales at staffed public-transport counters. The operator does not refund tickets; a refund is possible 48 hours ahead only with a Flexticket. If the planned locomotive or coaches are unavailable, replacement Zentralbahn rolling stock is used.
