Virtual Railfan's Deshler cameras stand in Deshler Crossroads Park, looking at the diamond where CSX's Toledo Subdivision — running Cincinnati to Detroit by way of Toledo — crosses the Garrett and Willard Subdivisions, which carry the Baltimore to Chicago traffic via Pittsburgh. This is a former Baltimore & Ohio crossroads, and the former interlocking control tower is still there in the shot. Two cameras are published, both free. The fixed camera holds the junction itself; the pan-tilt-zoom camera looks south towards Lima and moves when an operator is available. The operator counts upwards of 50 CSX freight trains a day here, intermodal and manifest, which makes Deshler one of the busiest single points on the CSX system that a member of the public can stand next to. What to watch for
Diamonds are the best thing a railfan camera can point at, because you get crossings, waits and signal changes rather than a single line of trains. Here it is CSX against CSX: the Toledo Sub on one axis, the Garrett and Willard Subs on the other. Listen for the LA desk dispatcher on 160.290 (AAR 12) for Toledo Sub moves, the RM dispatcher on 161.370 (AAR 84) for the Garrett Sub and the IP dispatcher on 161.520 (AAR 94) for the Willard Sub — three different voices telling you which way the next train is coming from. The former B&O interlocking tower beside the diamond is the historical anchor of the whole scene.
