There are three main tracks here — Main 1, Main 2 and Main 3, with sidings serving The Andersons grain silo — and the operator counts up to 80 daily freight trains across them: manifest, intermodal and locals.
Geography explains the volume. West of Kearney, trains run into Union Pacific's Bailey Yard at North Platte, the largest rail yard in the world, for refuelling, crew changes and reclassification. East, they head for Omaha. The two cameras face those two directions: one east towards Omaha, one west towards North Platte. The host is Bruce Furniture, and the operator publishes a Kearney symbol list compiled by Andrew Stephenson.
What to watch for
Up to 80 trains a day over three main tracks makes Kearney one of the busiest publicly watchable points on the Union Pacific system, and the two camera directions let you follow a train right across the frame. The Andersons grain silo sidings mean you also see loading moves rather than only through running. Road traffic is on 160.410 (AAR 20) and the dispatcher on 160.740 (AAR 42). The published symbol list is worth having open — it turns anonymous freights into identifiable trains.
