Amsterdam — De Vijf Bruggen, Camera 1

ProRail is replacing the five railway bridges known as the Oostertoegangsspoorbrug, which carry ten tracks over the Oostertoegang waterway on the east side of Amsterdam Centraal, between Stationsplein and Oosterdokseiland. Several of the spans date to 1917 and their piers to 1889; the programme replaces them one at a time so the station can stay in service throughout construction.

Each new bridge is fabricated off-site and floated in by barge, avoiding truck traffic on the busy De Ruijterkade quay. Bridge 5 entered service in April 2025, with the remaining spans following at roughly one bridge per year. The work is part of ProRail's national Programma Hoogfrequent Spoorvervoer (PHS), a multi-billion-euro programme to raise train frequency on the busiest Dutch lines — officially tracked by the Dutch government as one of its "megaprojecten" (Rijksbegroting, Artikel 17).
